This book joins the trend of authors releasing really great mlm zombie apocalypse books. I've read a few of them now, Kick At The Darkness by Keira Andrews being a personal favorite, and this book doesn't disappoint as a fan of this subgenre.
I'd call this a sort of gentle, slow burn romance.
The book does well focusing on the perspective of a more isolated community in the early days of an outbreak. The promise of violence lingers more in the background for a while and it gives some breathing room to explore how people would react to the anticipation of everything they might lose.
Though there was a good mix of zombies, action, and mystery I liked that it didn't just dwell on the negative. It had romance, found family, a community pulling together, people working together to maintain joy and normalcy, etc.
